Renewed Commitment and Community Service: Kalinga State University-Alumni General Assembly

In a momentous event that marked the end of a three-year hiatus due to the lockdown, alumni of Kalinga State University came together for a General Assembly that reverberated with renewed commitment and a strong spirit of giving back. The assembly, held on August 5, 2023 at the university alumni center, not only rekindled alumni ties but also set a remarkable precedent for community engagement.

Dr. Perfelia R. Buen, the esteemed university Board Secretary, presented the composition of the Board of Regents and the Federation of Alumni officers. Dr. Buen underscored the significance of electing an alumni Regent from the presidents of the three campuses, as outlined by the federation's constitution and By-Laws. The roles and responsibilities of an alumni regent were expounded upon, emphasizing their role as a representative for the entire alumni body. This role involves being a conduit for alumni concerns and issues during board meetings, ensuring that the alumni's voice is heard in decisions affecting the university's trajectory.

Dr. Eduardo T. Bagtang, the university president, imparted a compelling message about the essence of giving back. He elaborated on a range of services that can mutually benefit both the university and the larger community. Dr. Bagtang passionately elaborated on the multifaceted role of an alumni regent, highlighting their duty to holistically represent alumni interests and effectively communicate their needs to the university administration.

Following these insightful discussions, the gathering transitioned into an election of officers for Bulanao and Dagupan campuses, with Rizal campus having already established its officer lineup. The elections aimed to ensure effective representation and cohesive leadership across the university's various campuses. The result determined who among the three campus presidents would assume the vital position of alumni regent, carrying the alumni's voice to the university's highest decision-making body.

A highlight of the assembly was the inaugural community extension activity, demonstrating the steadfast commitment of the alumni to both their alma mater and the larger society. The officers of the federation orchestrated a heartening act of compassion, distributing food provisions to detainees at the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP). This meaningful gesture showcased the power of alumni unity in fostering positive change beyond the confines of the university.

With renewed commitment, community outreach, and meaningful dialogues, the Kalinga State University-Alumni General Assembly left an indelible mark on the university's history, fostering a spirit of service that promises to endure for generations to come.
