KSU-COED Conducts “I READ” among Non-Readers of Balawag Elementary School and Balawag National High School

KSU – College of Education conducted outreach program “I READ: Integrating Reading Enhancement Activities and Strategies” among non-readers of Balawag Elementary School and Balawag National High School on April 26, May 3, and May 10, 2024.

The program successfully identified and engaged a number of non-readers and struggling readers, providing them with tailored reading enhancement activities. This targeted approach ensured that the most vulnerable students received the necessary support. The program focused on engaging students through interactive reading sessions, one-on-one tutoring, and group activities that fostered a love for reading. At the outset, students were assessed to identify their reading levels. This helped in tailoring interventions to suit individual needs.

Reading sessions were conducted by practice teachers and faculty members of the college, featuring a variety of materials that appealed to different interests of the pupils and students. These sessions aimed to build confidence and improve comprehension skills.

In conclusion, the I READ program has proven to be an effective intervention for struggling readers  at  Balawag  National  High  School  and  Balawag  Elementary  School,  significantly contributing to their literacy development and fostering a culture of reading within the community.
