Kalinga State University Hosts 28th Philippine Statistics Quiz in Partnership with PSA-Kalinga

With the theme, "Advancing Data and Statistics Through Digital Transformation: A Road to an Empowered Nation", the Philippine Statistics Authority - Kalinga conducted its 28th Philippine Statistics Quiz Competition in celebration of the 35th National Statistics Month, hosted by Kalinga State University. It was held today, October 30, 2024, at the 2nd Floor, RnD Building, Bulanao Campus, which brought students from the different colleges, KSU Officials and PSA staff.

Said competition was spearheaded by Chief Statistical Specialist, Maribel M. Dalayday and organized by Ms. Jocelyn R. Lumas-e, Department Chairperson for Mathematics and Director for Student Services and Placement Services, Dr. Mary Joyce Wangiwang. This event is a nationwide competition designed to promote statistical literacy among young Filipinos and aims to instill a deeper appreciation for the importance of statistics in everyday life and foster the development of future statisticians.

In her opening remarks, CSS Maribel M. Dalayday, said that statistics play a crucial role in decision-making, planning, and driving progress in various fields. She emphasized that the competition challenges students to apply their knowledge of statistics in solving real-world problems, reflecting the role of data in informed decision-making.

“Through this quiz, we aim to encourage a deeper appreciation of the subject and inspire the next generation of statisticians and data-driven thinkers", CSS Dalayday remarked.

In his message, Vice President for Administration and Finance, Dr. Paulino Reyes II said that statistics equips us with the tools to analyze data, draw meaningful insights, and make informed decisions.

Dr. Reyes further encouraged the participants to embrace the spirit of fair play, resilience, and joy in learning and that they may tackle each question with confidence and finish with pride regardless of the outcome.

During the awarding, Dr. Grace Joy P. Doctor, University President, extended her heartfelt gratitude to the Philippine Statistics Authority – Kalinga Office for their tireless effort in promoting statistical literacy and excellence across the country. Likewise, to the organizers, staff and to the students for their active participation.

In her closing remarks, Dr. Mary Joyce Wangiwang, DSSPS, said that the event promotes education that helps equip students with the necessary skills to thrive in an increasingly data-driven world.
