Kalinga State University CEIT Launches C.E.I.T.W.O.W. Projects to Empower DepEd-ALS Learners

Kalinga State University's College of Engineering and Information Technology (CEIT) marked a significant milestone today, September 4, 2024, with the launch of the C.E.I.T.W.O.W. Projects for the Department of Education's Alternative Learning System (DepEd-ALS). This three-day event is centered on the theme "Intensifying Digital Citizenship," reflecting the college's commitment to fostering essential skills among ALS learners and implementers.

The C.E.I.T.W.O.W. Projects include three key activities: “Skills Training on Computer Hardware Maintenance," “Wonders in Numbers: Discovering Shortcuts in Basic Numerical Operations,” and “Training on Strategies in Teaching Mathematics for Alternative Learning System Implementers.” These initiatives are led by the faculty of Computer Engineering and BS Mathematics as part of the college's extension services.

During the opening ceremonies, CEIT Dean Dr. Ronald U. Wacas extended his appreciation, acknowledging the participants, particularly the primary beneficiaries- DepEd-ALS learners and implementers. CEIT Extension Chairman Diana C. Medrano also recognized the participants and introduced the faculty members who will serve as speakers throughout the event. Dr. Ruth Ladwingon, the CEIT-WOW Program Leader, provided an overview of the extension program, emphasizing its importance to the ALS community. KSU Extension Director Dr. Divina Balocnit commended the efforts in establishing the C.E.I.T.W.O.W. Projects, highlighting the role of commitment and intensified efforts in creating opportunities for community learners, citing several achievers from the DepEd ALS program as examples.

The preliminary activities concluded with a presentation of the event's flow by BSCpE Faculty member Babe Jimay L. Mauanay, followed by a group photo of the participants, lecturers, and the CEIT Extension Unit.

The training sessions, conducted by the BS Computer Engineering Faculty, covered topics such as "Introduction to Computer Hardware Tools and Trade," "Computer Maintenance and Troubleshooting Common Hardware Issues," "Basic Computer Networks," "Printer Maintenance and Troubleshooting," and "Computer Defragmentation, Software Installation, and Antivirus." Meanwhile, the BS Math Faculty offered lectures on "Problem-Solving Strategies: Boosting Critical Thinking in Math," "Engaging Math Through Interactive Learning," and "Technology Integration: Tools for Enhancing Math Instruction in ALS."

This initiative underscores Kalinga State University's dedication to extending educational opportunities and empowering the wider community, particularly those involved in the Alternative Learning System.
