Kalinga District Jail Launches Sustainable Livelihood Products

Tabuk City, Kalinga - On January 28, 2025, the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) Cordillera Administrative Region, Kalinga District Jail, successfully launched their "Kalinga District Jail PDL Sustainable Livelihood Products." This initiative, funded by the Department of Social Welfare and Development's Sustainable Livelihood Program (DSWD SWAD), aims to showcase the skills and craftsmanship of Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs) by highlighting their high-quality products.

The event was attended by representatives from various government agencies, including the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), Kalinga State University (KSU), DSWD, Provincial Local Government Unit (PLGU), and City/Municipal Local Government Units (CLGU).

During the event, District Jail Warden JSI Noel G. Bulnuan expressed his gratitude to all stakeholders for their unwavering support. He emphasized the crucial role of the program in improving the lives of PDLs by providing them with valuable skills and opportunities for rehabilitation and reintegration into society.

The highlight of the event was the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the display area showcasing the diverse range of products crafted by the PDLs. These included intricately woven baskets and "bayong" (traditional Filipino baskets), elegant woodcrafts, functional shelves, and a variety of other handicrafts.

Before the closing program, representatives from DTI, DOLE, TESDA, KSU, DSWD, PLGU, and CLGU delivered inspiring speeches, reaffirming their commitment to supporting the PDLs' livelihood endeavors and ensuring the program's success.

This initiative serves as a testament to the transformative power of rehabilitation programs and the dedication of both the PDLs and the supporting agencies in fostering a brighter future for those who have made mistakes.
